Water Sport Options at ISTC

12.18.24

ISTC boasts a private 100-acre lake within the property, which serves as the perfect backdrop for overnight camp and allows campers to experience a variety of water sports. Since the Waterfront is a signature area we build on year after year, we are excited to highlight our featured lake activities.

At the very minimum, all campers have two scheduled times at the Waterfront during a one-week stay. For the All Sports program (our main offering), the two sessions are focused on jet skiing and banana boating; for IXTC (our program for 15-17 year olds), the sessions are jet skiing and tubing. Regardless of age and athletic ability, our goal is to give campers the opportunity to safely partake in adventure activities they might not have access to at home.

Jet Skiing

  • With a staff member certified to operate personal watercraft in PA, campers are guided as they drive the defined course.
  • The activity is scaled with age; older campers will have increased freedom steering the jet ski while younger campers will have more support from their lifeguard instructor.
  • Jet ski is included with the cost of All Sports and IXTC programs, so it is automatically included in every campers’ schedule.

Banana Boating

  • Sitting or kneeling on a longer banana shaped tube, campers are towed via jet ski by our lifeguards.
  • As our driver takes twists and turns, campers experience the thrill of waves, splashes, and speed.
  • Banana boating is among our campers’ favorite activities given its fast paced, adventurous nature.

Tubing

  • Similar to banana boating, campers are towed via jet ski but lay on their stomachs on an inflatable tube.
  • During the IXTC session, campers who are not actively tubing are welcome to hang out on the camp’s pontoon boat.
  • IXTC is focused on developing social skills and confidence for teens; what could be better than a high speed tubing experience to bond over?

In addition to these structured session amidst all of the different sports, the Waterfront is open for play during recreation time each afternoon. Waterfront recreation time means campers who love the lake can be there before their structured session or gives them time to revisit. Additionally, Waterfront recreation times highlight the non jet ski, banana boat and tubing amenities we have for campers to enjoy.

Obstacle Course

  • Featuring several pieces from Wibit such as the Mountain, Springboard, and Half Pipe, campers are welcome to run, climb, and jump off each of the elements.

The Blob

  • Best featured in the movie “Heavyweights” with Ben Stiller, The Blob is a large inflatable designed to catapult campers into the lake. In pairs, one camper sits at the tube’s end while another jumps on the opposite side, launching them into the air.
  • For campers that aren’t as excited about heights, campers can also wrestle one another off The Blob to make a splash in the lake.

Non-Motorized Boats

  • Campers are invited to take out different types of boats to explore the lake; pedal boats, paddle boards, and kayaks are available for campers to use.

Swimming

  • We have both deep and shallow areas roped off for campers looking to swim.
  • These areas are perfect for beating the summer heat while socializing with friends.
  • We also use the shallow swim area for swim relays as part of our extensive cabin-of-the-week competitions.

The Waterfront will always be signature to our sports programs. It encourages campers to spend time in the sun, take on novel experiences, and create fun memories with peers. We are already counting down the days until we are back on the lake!
